The Turtle carries his house on his back.
Even if he tries hard, he cannot leave his home.
People say Jupiter punished him because he was so lazy and never left home.
He was so lazy, he didn't go to Jupiter's wedding.
Even though Jupiter invited him especially.
Jupiter got so mad, he punished the Turtle.
Years went by and the Turtle wished he went to Jupiter's wedding.
He saw all the other animals running and flying around, exploring the world.
He was stuck in his house, with very short legs.
He could hardly go anywhere.
One day he met a pair of Ducks and told them all his trouble.
"We can help you to see the world," said the Ducks.
"Bite on this stick and we will cary you up in the air.
You will be able to see places you have never seen before.
There is one warning though. Don't talk or you will be sorry."
The Turtle was very happy.
He bit the stick firmly with his teeth.
The two Ducks held each side of the stick and flew up into the clouds.
Just then, a Crow flew by.
He was very surprised with the sight and said
"This must be the King of Turtles!"
"Of course ——" began the Tortoise.
But as he opened his mouth to say these foolish words he lost his hold on the stick,
and down he fell to the ground. He was split into pieces by a rock.
Lesson: Foolish curiosity and vanity often lead to misfortune.
