A Shepard Boy looked after his master's Sheep near a dark forest.
The forest was far from the village.
Shortly after starting this job, he thought it was very boring.
The only thing he could do to entertain himself was to talk to his dog or play the pipe.
One day, as he sat watching his master's Sheep, he thought about what he would do if he saw a Wolf.
As he thought about this, he came up with a plan to make his life more interesting.
His master had told him to call for help if a Wolf attacked the Sheep.
The Villagers will come to help and drive it away.
So the Boy, even though there was no Wolf to be seen, ran toward the village shouting,
As he expected, the Villagers who heard the cry stopped doing their work and ran toward the Boy.
But when they arrived, they saw the Boy laughing at them.
The Boy was thrilled to see his trick work on them.
A few days later, the Boy shouted, "Wolf! Wolf!" once more, and the Villagers went to help again.
However, they found themselves once more to be laughed at by the Boy.
Then one evening, when it was starting to get dark, a Wolf really did appear from the forest.
It started attacking the Sheep
In horror, the Boy ran toward the village shouting, "Wolf! Wolf!"
But the Villagers, even though they heard him cry, did not run to help him as they did before.
"He can't trick us again." they said.
The Wolf killed many of the Boy's sheep and went back to the forest.
